Network Overloaded
During the past 24 hours, Wuala got slower and slower. A few times it went offline completely due to too high load. It took us a while to find it, but it appears that the root cause of this is that the current Wuala client has a bug that caused our network to be overloaded. When a request fails, Wuala waits for 30 seconds an tries again. Here, it would be better to employ so-called "exponential backoff": if the first attempt fails, wait 5 seconds. If the second attempt fails, wait 10 seconds, then 20 seconds, then 40, and so on. This ensures that an overloaded network gets some time to recover itself. However, Wuala had a scheduling bug that caused it to basically do the opposite in some situations: instead of waiting 30 seconds and then trying again, it waited 30 seconds and then tried again twice (or even more times). Consequently, whenever a new retry was scheduled, the requests multiplied, leading to high loads on our networks, causing more connection problems and even more retries. We finally decided to break the cycle by answering excessive requests with an error that lets affected Wuala clients shutdown and show the message "Preventive client shutdown for network stability. Please try restarting Wuala." If you saw this message, you are one of the affected users. We apologize for this inconvenience and hope you understand this measure.

Prolongued Connectivity Problems
Update:
Everything should be up and running normally again. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Tonight, from approximately 01:30 to 06:58, Wuala wasn't available for many users. This was caused by an error in our monitoring system and not detected until early in the morning due to suboptimal processes and a human error related to yesterdays network problems in the data center. We will take measures to prevent this in future. If you have been affected by this issue, please write to support@wuala.com and we provide you with 2 GB of free extra storage.
